Taj Mahal

3 million visitors a year to one tomb in one town... By our calculation we think there were 120,000+ visitors the day we visited. The Indians pay R25 and we pay R750 (AUD$15) BUT... that gave us the right to jump the queue that did a full lap of the exterior of the Tahj to visit the Queen's Tomb. In hindsight I'm not sure why the tomb generates such a queue - there is nothing much to see. It is the outside of the Taj that celebrates the King's favourite wife (and after bearing him 13 children so he should have!) Beautiful gardens and water features surround the iconic tomb and it is kept in beautiful condition. Particularly considering the pressure visitation puts on the infrastructure. They are stricter with entry than flying internationally, but it keeps the place safe, clean and deviod of beggars/traders and conmen.
